Poker account and variance
poker is a game of skills in the long run. short -term, however, luck is a big factor. even the best players will have long periods of loss. no one can guard against bad cards. this is part of the game. the fact that your poker account can fall as well as to rise is known as the poker variance. the more aggressively you play the greater is this variance. but anyway, everyone wants to experience ups and downs.
for beginner, it is easy to ignore this factor. you sit down on a table with $ 15 and win a couple of big hands. in a short time you have 30 $ and the game seems easy. if you are lucky you can continue for a while and win a good random money. but for every lucky player it is an unlucky! for example, if you start with $ 10 on a $ 50c/1 $ table, the probability is that you will lose everything before you win.
this is where the size of the poker account is important. you must have a poker account that can withstand that you have a bad period without losing everything. if that happens, the upswing will not be brought that always comes if you play good and solid poker. so when you get a bonus you can sit down on a 50c/1 $ table and gamble everything right away. either way, you will see quick results. loss everything or if you are very lucky, a nice gain. but you only get a welcome bonus once, are you sure you want to sacrifice them this way?
here we have set up a table that shows how much you have in your poker account to play on different tables. this one is probably pretty careful.
Stakes | Big Bet | Inserted on the table | Total Pokerkontonto | Inserted on Table / Total Poker Account |
10c-20c | 0.20 | 10 | 50 | 5 |
25c-50c | 0.50 | 25 | 125 | 5 |
50c-$1 | 1.00 | 50 | 250 | 5 |
$1-$2 | 2.00 | 100 | 500 | 5 |
the principle is that you should at least buy in with at least 50 times "big bet" on the table and have a poker account of at least 250 times big bet before playing. maybe 100 times is enough, some will say and that is probably true in most cases as well. everything has with how much risk you want to take. Don't let your ego get better than you or become impatient. Both can be devastating for a poker player. Stick to your poker account all the time! Also note that "Big Bet" and "Big Blind" are different. Big bet is double as big as big blind.
